The Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture under the proficiency and leadership of Minister Nathi Mthethwa will this week commence with its series of Ministerial Roadshow. The roadhows are scheduled to visit all provinces of the Republic and are to be conducted in collaboration with the provincial departments. The Ministerial Arts and Culture Roadshow will be open to various sectoral stakeholders inclusive of artists, athletes, practitioners, managers, policy makers, and researchers from the sports, arts and culture.
Under Minister Nathi Mthethwa guidance, the roadshow is set to commence in the Eastern Cape Province with the details as follows:
Date : Thursday, 27 February 2020
Venue: Pine Lodge Resort Summerstrand (Port Elizabeth)
Time : 09H00 – 17H00
The objective of the Ministerial Roadshows will be to pursue the achievement of the following:
- To have an open dialogue with practitioners in the Sports, Arts and Culture sector and be able to deepen the understanding of the role of the National and Provincial Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
- To provide information on available funding opportunities both sectors (incl. funding from entities)
- To respond to recurring issues in the media space relating to the sectors, particularly arts and culture and to clear some misconceptions about allocation of funding and programmes of the department.
Members of the media are therefore invited and should note that the engagement will be divided into two sessions. The first session will be attended by athletes while the second session will be attended by artists. The main reason for separating the sessions is to allow for a structured engagement, and robust discussions with individual sectors without letting issues from one sector to dominate the other.
Media will also be afforded an opportunity to engage with the Minister and various stakeholders in soliciting the ipact of the roadshows and their objectives.
