Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will host Craft Imbizo with Crafters and Craft Stakeholders on 15 November 2016 at Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.
The Honourable MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga Province, Ms Norah Mahlangu will join the Deputy Minister on this occasion.
This Imbizo seeks to strengthen government’s efforts in the implementation of the Programme of Action as well as government’s monitoring and evaluation system.
The Craft Sector has long being acknowledged as one of the strategic sectors for socio-economic development and job creation in the country. Despite this, many challenges still beset this sector. These challenges ranges from access to information, access to viable markets, access to reasonably priced raw materials for craft production as well as access to funding and finance.
It is for this reason that the Deputy Minister and the MEC will conduct craft imbizo to provide a platform for crafters and craft stakeholders to engage on the challenges, share ideas on craft sectors’ development and how craft sector can be better serviced moving forward.
During her visit to the Mpumalanga, the Deputy Minister will also hoist the national flag at Mathibela Traditional Council in Oakley as part of the Department of Arts and Culture’s Flag in every school campaign.
