President Jacob Zuma will on Tuesday, 26 July 2016, officiate at a sod turning ceremony at the renowned Adams College, in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal Province. Accompanying the President, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will also deliver a message of support at this historic occasion.
The Multi-Phase Project include amongst others, the renovations and constructions of the following: African Library and Resource Centre, Amphitheatre, Skills Development Centre as well as the Museum and Art Gallery in alignment with the ten year vision of Adams College to revitalize, redevelop and reposition itself as a premier learning institution for future generations. This project was launched by the Department of Arts and Culture in 2013 at the school’s 160th Celebrations.
Adams College is historically one of the first few training institutions in South Africa where Africans could attain a decent education and skills during the darkest period of apartheid oppression. The College is also considered one of South Africa’s historic schools due to it being the oldest institution for Africans in KwaZulu Natal and the second oldest in Southern Africa.
This year, the school celebrates 163 years of existence and counts amongst its alumni, luminaries such as Dr John Langalibalele Dube, Chief Albert Luthuli, the former Presidents of the African National Congress; Mr Milton Obote, former President of Uganda; and Sir Seretse Khama, former President of Botswana.
Adams College has produced many other celebrated professionals both in South Africa and the continent at large.
